Nneoma Michelle Egeonu is a Nigerian author, creative writer and poet with a strong interest in contemporary literature. Her works have centred around thought-provoking themes that challenge the narrative in the African literary, social, and political landscapes. Nneoma was nicknamed the “African Queen of Suspense” by her friends. She graduated from the famous Nnamdi Azikiwe University in Awka, Nigeria, with a degree in Applied Microbiology and Brewing. She obtained her second degree, a Master’s in Public Health, from Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), London.
Her journey in the world of literature has witnessed significant achievements, with several published works to her name. She is the founder of Guild of African Thriller Authors (GATA), a platform that seeks to amplify and promote African thrillers. Nneoma’s passion has always been to address the glaring gap and underrepresentation of Africans in genre fiction. African voices, especially female voices in crime and psychological thrillers, often go unheard, and as such, she is set to change the narrative. As a social activist, she is dedicated to spreading revolutionary ideas through her works.
Nneoma’s works have appeared in notable literary publications such as Fiery Scribe Review and Kalahari Review. Her debut anthology, Nightmare in Sicily, was a finalist for the Abubakar Gimba Prize for Short Stories, organised by the Association of Nigerian Authors, and was included in postgraduate studies at Imo State University, Nigeria. The work was an instant Amazon bestseller in the UK and the US and was read in Germany and other parts of the world. In Broad Daylight, the recipient of Storytellers’ Orbit’s STAR BOOK OF THE YEAR AWARD (2023), is the first in her crime-psychological thriller series, followed by Along Came a Tempest. Her short story, Nigerian Women Are the Devil’s Playmate, has received widespread acclaim since its release. Her poem, CHINUA ACHEBE: THE MAN, THE MAGIC, THE MYTH, published in the Chinua Achebe Poetry/Essay Anthology organised by the Society of Young Nigerian Writers, Awka, Anambra State, Nigeria, has been praised for its richness and poetic elegance.
As a spoken word artist, some of her spoken word poems, such as Land of Giants and On This Rock We Stand, went viral after their release. Land of Giants was welcomed by PACHEDU, Scotland, and also submitted to the Silicon Valley Film Festival, US. The PRAWA Flash Fiction Contest awarded her flash fiction second position in 2021.
Nneoma founded The Nneoma Michelle Egeonu Reading Initiative, a non-governmental organisation that seeks to promote literacy and educational opportunities among young people. Through her initiative, she conducted the first-ever national reading contest in Nigeria in 2024.
In addition to these, she is a member of the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (Anambra State Chapter); Black Guild Writers, UK; London Writers’ Cafe; and Write Our Legacy, UK.
In 2024, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) invited her for a chat, in which she talked at length about the global impact of her works. Several popular websites have also published write-ups about her and her works.
She has worked as a creative writer, copywriter, ghostwriter, and editor, demonstrating her prowess in a variety of literary fields and receiving prestigious academic prizes.
