Charlotte Brontë (1816–1855) was an English novelist and poet from Yorkshire, one of the three Brontë sisters, all of whose novels became classics. She is best known for her novel Jane Eyre, which she published under the male pseudonym Currer Bell. Written in the first person by a female narrator, Jane Eyre was groundbreaking for its time, and it went on to become a huge success. Charlotte died at the age of 38.

Patrice Lawrence grew up in Sussex, with a mother who loved historical fiction. She writes books for children and young people of all ages, from picture books to teen thrillers, and was awarded an MBE for Literature in 2021. Patrice has been shortlisted for the Costa Children’s Award, the Carnegie Medal, the Little Rebels Award and many regional awards, and has won the Bookseller YA Prize, the Waterstones Prize for Older Children and the inaugural Jhalak Prize for Children and Young People. She is passionate about social justice and is an ambassador for the creative writing charity First Story. Patrice lives in Hastings.
