Effiong Bob studied law at the University of Lagos and was called to the Bar in 1984. A quintessential politician, lawyer, and businessman, he has served as a councillor, a council chairman, Deputy Speaker of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in Akwa Ibom State. He was elected to the Senate in 2003, where he served for two terms and chaired sensitive Standing Committees, including the Finance Committee, Senate Services Committee, and Culture and Tourism Committee. Earlier, he had functioned as Vice Chairman of the Power and Steel Committee before moving to the Local and Foreign Debts Committee. Twice, he served as a member ECOWAS Parliament. With legislative interest in finance, rural development, and parliamentary procedure and practice, Bob is the author of Independence of the Legislature in Nigeria: Matters Arising (2010).
