Ayo Deforge is a Nigerian poet and storyteller based in the south of France. She began writing poetry at thirteen as a way to process personal grief.
She studied French at Lagos State University and moved to France in 2012, where she worked in the yachting industry while continuing to write.
An alumna of Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s Creative Writing Workshop and the Faber Academy, her work has appeared in Litro Magazine, Brittle Paper, Ayo Magazine, Kalahari Review, JAY Lit, Lucy Writers Platform, the Love Grows Stronger in Death anthology, and other publications.
She is the author of Tearless (shortlisted for the Association of Nigerian Authors Fiction Prize and the Chinua Achebe Prize), Grips of Grief (shortlisted for the ANA Non-Fiction Prize), and the poetry collection the Mind is not an ally, which explores the power of training the mind. Her second novel, Under the Rain, was released in December 2025.
