About the Author

Odo Claire ‘Koko’ Kalango is the founder of the Rainbow Foundation and the founder Colours of Life Ministry. She was the Project Director of the UNESCO World Book Capital 2014. She has over 30 years of work experience across education, communication, and administration. Koko has worked in Nigeria, the United Kingdom, and as a volunteer in the United States of America.

Koko wrote a weekly lifestyle column (Foot Prints, later renamed Colours of Life) in This Day Newspaper on Sundays, from 2003-2008 and resumed in 2017. In 2005 she founded the Rainbow Book Club and Kicked off the ‘Get Nigeria Reading Again’ campaign, to encourage reading for personal and national development. She organized the annual Port Harcourt Book Festival (formerly the Garden City Literary Festival) which began in 2008. In 2012, supported by the Federal Government Nigeria, the Rivers State Govt. and, UNESCO Nigeria, she put in the bid which led to the nomination of Port Harcourt as UNESCO World Book Capital 2014. She directed the year-long project.Koko has compiled and edited 2 Books; ‘Nigerian Literature’, A Coat of Many Colours, an anthology of 50 writers n 50 years, with forward by President Goodluck Jonathan (2012), ‘African Literature, A Coat of Many Colours’; an anthology of 50 authors in 50 years of the African Union (2015) with a foreword by Chief Emeka Anyaoku. She also co-edited; 100 Years Around Nigeria (2014), an anthology of stories by Nigerian Children, 100 Years around Port Harcourt; an anthology of stories by children of Rivers State (2014). She is the author of an annual Daily Christian devotional, ‘Colours of Life’.

Koko Kalango has represented Nigeria on various international platforms including; Poland World Book Capital 2016, Incheon World Book Capital 2015, Bangkok World Book Capital 2013, Edinburgh Book Fair in 2010, Kirby Smith youth exchange programme in Tucson Arizona, USA, organized by the Lions Club International in 1985.
