About the Author

Edem Ossai is a lawyer and development expert with over 15 years working in education, gender and youth policy. As the founder of Mentoring Assistance for Youth and Entrepreneurs Initiative (MAYEIN), a Nigerian-based nonprofit working to advance young people’s development, she has led the planning, implementation, and review of programmes and policies in inclusive education, gender equality, and youth civic inclusion across sub-national, national, and Africa regional levels. As a result of her impact, in 2016, she was appointed as a Mandela Washington fellow by the US State Department, and in 2018, she was selected as an Inaugural Obama Scholar by the former US President, Barack Obama’s Foundation.
Edem is married with two brilliant daughters, and she is committed to using her writing as a tool for igniting the ‘can-do’ spirit of every African child.
